The Justice Courts are often called “The People’s Court” and “Small Claims Court.”
The Justice of the Peace in Jefferson County presides over the court that hears misdemeanor cases, traffic violations, and other petty criminal infractions. They also have authority over cases involving small debts, landlord and tenant disputes, and other small claims court proceedings.
Procedure
Ensuring courtroom procedures are designed to hear and process more cases in an equitable manner. This will help county residents get through the court system and back to their lives, faster.
Youth Engagement
Identifying and addressing teen and youth delinquent behavior through innovation and accountability, such as: Mentorships, Internships, and Apprenticeships.
Justice
Delivering Justice with the highest level of integrity and fairness and also going beyond the typical call of duty, creating a much needed elevation of the expectations of the position.

Establishing community programs and resources so Jefferson County residents have a better understanding of the judicial process and how to navigate the Justice Courts.
